How We Evaluate Your Diamond

Unlike gold (which has a single, transparent spot price), diamonds are evaluated on multiple factors. We walk you through all of them.

The 4 Cs — Explained Simply

C

Cut

How well the diamond was shaped and faceted. A well-cut diamond reflects light brilliantly. Cut is the biggest driver of sparkle — and one of the biggest drivers of value.

C

Color

Diamond color is graded D (colorless) through Z (visible yellow or brown tint). Colorless stones (D–F) are rarest and most valuable. We grade this with calibrated comparison stones in controlled lighting.

C

Clarity

Most diamonds have tiny inclusions or surface blemishes. The fewer and smaller, the higher the grade. We use 10x loupe magnification to assess clarity.

C

Carat

The physical weight of the diamond. Larger stones are exponentially rarer, so price increases sharply with carat weight — all else equal.

What Else We Consider

  • GIA or lab certificate: A certified diamond is easier to price. We reference the certificate but also do our own assessment.
  • Shape and current market demand: Round brilliant diamonds hold value best. Fancy shapes (oval, cushion, pear) have strong demand right now.
  • The mount: If it’s in a ring, the metal has value too. We evaluate the diamond and the metal separately, so you get paid for both.
  • Lab-grown vs. natural: Lab diamonds are priced separately from natural. Market values differ — we’ll be upfront about current pricing for both.

Why Fayetteville Sellers Choose Us Over Other Options

You have options. Here’s an honest comparison.

vs. National Mail-In Diamond Buyers

Mail-in means shipping your diamond to a stranger, waiting days for an offer, and negotiating from a distance with no leverage. At Gold & Diamond Company, you're in the room. You watch the evaluation. You can ask questions, push back, or walk away with your diamond right then. Same-day payment beats a mailed check every time.

vs. Selling Online (eBay, Facebook, Craigslist)

Online selling can take weeks or months, attracts scammers, and requires mailing an expensive item to a stranger with zero guarantee you'll get paid. We buy same day, in person — no fraud risk.

vs. Jewelry Stores on a Trade-In

Jewelry stores credit trade-in value toward a new purchase — meaning you must spend more money to access your diamond's value. We give you cash with no strings attached.

vs. Pawn Shops

Pawn shops are in the lending and resale business. They need large margins to operate. We are a dedicated precious metals and gemstone buyer — our model depends on paying fairly.

Why we can pay more:We have direct access to wholesale diamond buyers and don’t need to display and sell your diamond in a retail case. That removes a layer of overhead and lets us pay you more of the true market value.

We Buy Lab-Grown Diamonds Too

Lab-created diamonds are chemically and physically identical to mined diamonds. The resale market for lab-grown diamonds is different from natural diamonds — prices have declined as supply expanded — and we’ll be honest about that. But they still have real value, and we’ll evaluate yours based on current market conditions.

We buy:

  • Lab-grown loose diamonds (all shapes, all sizes)
  • Lab-grown engagement rings
  • Lab-grown diamond jewelry
  • IGI, GIA, or uncertified lab diamonds

Not sure if yours is natural or lab-grown? Bring it in. We have the equipment to test.
