How to Sell Gold: What to Expect When You Walk In
Thinking about selling gold but not sure what to expect? Here's exactly what happens when you walk into Gold & Diamond Company — from first step to final payment.
Step 1: Walk In — No Appointment Needed
You don't need to call ahead or schedule anything. Just walk into either of our Northwest Arkansas locations during business hours. Bring whatever gold items you have — jewelry, coins, flatware, dental gold, anything.
Step 2: We Test and Weigh Everything
A team member will test each item in front of you. We use professional-grade equipment to determine the karat (purity) of each piece, then weigh everything on a calibrated scale. You watch the whole process — we don't disappear into the back room.
Testing takes 5–10 minutes for most collections. We test for gold, silver, and platinum. If you have gemstones in your pieces, we'll note them — stones are typically set aside (they don't affect the gold value, but you get them back or we can evaluate them separately).
Step 3: We Calculate and Explain the Offer
Based on the weight, karat, and current gold spot price, we calculate a fair offer. We show you the math — weight × purity × our buy rate — so you can see exactly where the number comes from. No mystery, no "trust us."
Our buy rate: We pay competitive rates on all precious metals. We're transparent about our margin — we need to make a profit to stay in business, and we'll tell you exactly what that margin is.
Step 4: You Decide — Zero Pressure
The offer is yours to accept or decline. Take it home and think about it. Get another offer somewhere else. We don't use high-pressure tactics because we're confident our offers are fair. If you come back, great. If not, that's okay too.
Most people accept on the spot because the process is transparent and the offer is fair.
Step 5: Get Paid Immediately
If you accept, you get paid on the spot. Cash or check, your preference. The whole process — from walking in to walking out with payment — typically takes 15–30 minutes.
What to Bring
- Any gold, silver, or platinum items you want to sell
- A valid government-issued ID (required by law for precious metal purchases)
- Any documentation you have (appraisals, receipts) — helpful but not required
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you buy broken jewelry?
Yes. Broken, tangled, mismatched — it doesn't matter. We buy gold for its metal content, not its condition as jewelry.
What if I don't know the karat?
That's fine. We test everything ourselves. You don't need to know what you have before you come in.
Is there a minimum amount?
No minimum. We'll evaluate a single ring or a large estate collection with the same level of service.
